Actors Who Were Considered For Oscar Nominated Roles - Would They Still Have Been Nominated/Would They Have Won? Best Actress 2000-2019

2020.07.20 14:32 adalby12 Actors Who Were Considered For Oscar Nominated Roles - Would They Still Have Been Nominated/Would They Have Won? Best Actress 2000-2019

A couple of commenters decided I should do all of the categories in the 2000s first, so here is the list of people who were considered for roles that were nominated for the Best Actress award from the 2001 ceremony honouring the films of 2000 to the 2020 ceremony honouring films of 2019. Would any of these performances have been better? Would these actresses still have garnered that Oscar nomination? Could they even have won?
Harriet (2019) - When the project first began development in 2015, it was set to star VIOLA DAVIS in the lead role, but that project never came to fruition, leading to the Cynthia Erivo version that we got
A Star Is Born (2018) - Numerous performers were considered for the role of Ally, including JENNIFER LOPEZ, RIHANNA, SHAKIRA, JANELLE MONAE, KESHA, BEYONCÉ and DEMI LOVATO (bear in mind these are the names that were considered just for the role of Ally which went to Lady Gaga, there were other versions of an A Star Is Born remake in development long before this)
Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018) - JULIANNE MOORE was initially cast as Lee Israel in April 2015, before dropping out that July after creative disputes with Nicole Holofcener, who still intended to direct at that point. Marielle Heller and Melissa McCarthy took over the project in May 2016
Elle (2016) - Paul Verhoeven originally intended the film to be an American production, set in Boston or Chicago, and as such considered many Hollywood actors for the part, including NICOLE KIDMAN, CHARLIZE THERON, JULIANNE MOORE, MARION COTILLARD, DIANE LANE, SHARON STONE and JENNIFER JASON LEIGH, before moving production to France in order to prevent the more controversial material being watered down or removed entirely
Jackie (2016) - Initially the film was to be directed by Darren Aronofsky and star his tgen partner RACHEL WEISZ in the lead role, but the project fell apart once their romantic relationship ended in 2010
Gone Girl (2014) - REESE WITHERSPOON produced the adaptation of the novel with the intention to play Amy as well, but ended up only producing
Gravity (2013) - Multiple actors were prevented from playing the part of Dr Ryan Stone due to scheduling conflicts: ANGELINA JOLIE, NATALIE PORTMAN, MARION COTILLARD and BLAKE LIVELY were all offered the role at one stage or another. Sandra Bullock then won the part over many other actors that were considered, including SCARLETT JOHANSSON and REBECCA HALL
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2011) - Many actors were considered for the role of Lisbeth Salander, including EVA GREEN, ANNE HATHAWAY, JENNIFER LAWRENCE, LEA SEYDOUX and ELLEN PAGE, among others
Changeling (2008) - Angelina Jolie won the role of multiple other actors who campaigned for it, including HILARY SWANK and REESE WITHERSPOON
The Devil Wears Prada (2006) - KIM BASINGER was considered for the role of Miranda Priestly
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004) - KATE BECKINSALE lobbied hard for the role of Clementine, which ended up going to Kate Winslet
Frida (2002) - Hayden Herrera’s biopic of Frida Kahlo was first optioned in 1988, and over the course of development the lead role attracted interest from MERYL STREEP, JESSICA LANGE and MADONNA
Chicago (2002) - TONI COLETTE was first offered the role of Roxie but turned it down. Many actors were then considered, with Rob Marshall saying he met with “10 or more women” including MARISA TOMEI, CHRISTINA APPLEGATE and MILLA JOVOVICH before casting Renee Zellweger
Moulin Rouge! (2001) - COURTNEY LOVE auditioned for the role of Satine, and even helped clear licensing rights for the use of Smells Like Teen Spirit in the film, but she was still beaten out by Nicole Kidman, as were KATE WINSLET, RENEE ZELLWEGER and CATHERINE ZETA-JONES, among others
Bridget Jones’ Diary (2001) - Many actors were offered and turned down the role of Bridget, including TONI COLLETTE, NICOLE KIDMAN, KRISTIN SCOTT THOMAS and EMILY WATSON, with HELENA BONHAM CARTER and TILDA SWINTON also considered for it, among others. RACHEL WEISZ was also mentioned but was considered “too beautiful” for the part (bit of an insult to everyone else who was considered)
Requiem For A Dream (2000) - FAYE DUNAWAY was initially offered the role of Sara, but turned it down
As always, these lists aren’t exhaustive, I only include some of the names in long lists, most of these will have many names attached to them (Gravity and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo have tons), so there will probably be some I missed out

2020.06.05 17:57 bigandmessy I'm the first person in my entire extended family to leave the church and it feels extremely isolating

I'm still relatively new to Reddit, but have been really enjoying this subreddit so far because it makes me feel less alone. Thanks for that, y'all! I apologize for what I'm about to word vomit, but I really don't have anyone else to talk to about this stuff, seeing as I am the first person in my very large immediate and extended family to ever leave the church (even my gay funeral director cousin is still a card carrying Catholic).
I grew up in a very large, very hardcore Irish Catholic family in the deep south. My great-grandmother had 12 kids, my grandmother being the youngest (she, funnily enough, only had 2 kids- my mom and my uncle). My mom went on to have 4 kids of her own with my father, as well as helping raise the 5 kids from my dad's previous marriage. I'm the oldest of hers, but we were always raised as one giant Catholic family. Her brother went on to marry a convert and they had 2 kids and we were raised right along side them, practically siblings. We all attended Catholic school, church once a week, did all our sacraments at the right age (confession, communion, confirmation, the whole 9 yards).
When I was very young, I tried so hard to be the good Catholic kid. Looking back, I can't say I ever truly believed, even though I tried really really hard. When I became a teenager, my mom really wanted me to start attending CYO and spiritual retreats, which I did dilligently. I was a rebellious teen- I partied and smoked and TP'ed houses like a normal teenager- but I still wanted that bond with the church that I saw all my family have. There truly was not a single aspect of our lives that the church was not involved in. School, social gatherings, friend groups, family events, I mean you name it and my family would figure out how to bring Catholicism into it somehow.
I remember going to my mom around the time I was 15/16 years old, heading toward confirmation age. We were having a discussion about how do you feel a call to the lord and how can you really tell he is there? I told my mom I had truly never felt "the call" or "the holy spirit" and I didn't know how to make it happen. Her words of advice were "Fake it 'til you make it," I guess insinuating that I should just go through the motions until something happened. So I did. I got confirmed, I attended CYO, participated in youth groups, did all kinds of spiritual retreats. And nothing ever happened.
I questioned the doctorine a lot at school, which marked me as a troublemaker. I would always argue in favor of abortion, and gay rights and a lot of things that the church was staunchly against. I first felt attraction to the same sex around the time that I was 12 years old (thanks, Shakira and Beyonce for awakening that side of me). But I never told anyone. The message I always heard was "Well, homosexuality is fine, as long as you never act on it." That never sat right with me. But I tried for so long to keep it secret.
Honestly, the first 18 years of my life was trying so hard to fit in with the people I saw around me. To have that emotional connection to the trinity and the church and the saints and all that other shit. When I went to college though, everything changed. For the first time in my life, I was around people who were not militant Catholics and came from all walks of life and I began to do research into the questions that had been plaguing me for years. And I gradually left the church. Stopped going to mass, started proclaiming that I didn't need church to have a relationship to god. Well, then I gradually left behind the idea of god, because I began to question even more. So now, at the ripe old age of 28, I'm a communist athiest and I'm completely alone in my family.
I was angry after I left the church and god and was combative for a long time. Anytime I visited home, there were arguements and fights and tears. I eventually moved 6 hours away and my life got a whole lot better and more peaceful. Only came home for holidays and because I was so seldom seen, anytime I was home everyone else tried to keep the peace and keep their mouths shut because I was known to walk out and just leave if shit got too real and nasty. I met my partner, we've been together 5 years now and we're both athiests and have basically the same ideologies and I love them so much. Whenever we visit home, they're my rock and keep me grounded and help mitigate any arguments that may be coming to a head.
I've recently moved back into my mom's house for a short period while my partner and I are working on buying a house. They're still back 6 hours away working until we can sign on something, so I'm stuck here in a house full of my incredibly Catholic family. While I have calmed down a great deal since my early 20s, there's still almost nightly debates about anything under the sun- abortion, racism, gay rights, etc. And I feel ganged up on. I don't have anyone here to back me up. Even my most liberal sibling, my bisexual, socialist sister, is still drinking the Catholic kool-aid. My aunts, my uncles, my cousins, my great aunts, my sisters, my mom, etc. They're all constantly just trying to get me back into the fold. And I'm so tired. I feel so alone in my fight for logic and reasoning and looking at the facts instead of just relying on faith.
Has anyone else been through this? How did you deal with it? Did it ever get better? Did you ever feel less alone? I would love to hear y'all's stories. Thanks for taking the time to read my word vomit lol

2020.05.20 19:36 dieselbluu My Sim’s Midlife Crisis

Basically I came here to talk about it, since I don’t really anyone IRL who likes the Sims this much.
My sim is named Payton Patel, her story was at first simple: an early 20’s young, Indian woman who moves to the big city and gets a shaggy apartment and tries to work her way up to the top of her Public Relations career.
Along the way she made great friends like Miko and Darling (a former neighbors) and Penny (a former co-worker) and several hookups/failed relationships. She focused mostly on her career and was amazing at it and constantly earning promotions, while just barely maintaining a social life. (Her friends would often show up unannounced to her apartment).
As for her love life, her first hookup was with a very nice guy who was a bartender she got flirty with. He called the next morning, she didn’t answer. Cold, I know, but she was focusing on her career. She would have a string of one-night stands and guys that weren’t very interested. For example a neighbor (Miko and Darlings’ roommate) who she would be very on and off with. One minute their arguing next their making out her couch. Another dude who was unflirty, I saw this as a challenge but he really wasn’t worth the hassle. After a failed date with the unflirty guy, she hooks up with a vendor from a kiosk. (I’m starting to realize my sim might be a slut, no shame though)
His name was Gustavo, a nice guy, chiseled jaw and abs, but ironically lazy. Which was opposed to her, being ambitious and rising through the ranks in her profession. They started dating he became friends with her friends, got a place, got married, then had a kid, Charlotte.
Payton was a spin director and at the top her career, Gustavo was pastry chef (so obviously she made more), Charlotte was an A student, their home was happy and a great view of the town. Behind the scenes Gustavo would harmlessly flirt with women at his gym, then he full had an affair with a married woman he met at the Romance festival, Bella Goth. Gustavo convinced Bella to leave Mortimer and she did. Payton walked in on Bella and Gustavo and the married ended there (Well after a fight). Payton nearly died that night from being too angry, Charlotte had to plea for her life because Gustavo wouldn’t.
Gustavo married Bella and moved into her creepy home with her kids Wednesday and Pugsley (Cassandra & Alexander). Gustavo know has never little interactions with Charlotte. Payton, to distract herself from her divorce and world being turned upside down, got a new job working at the bottom of the writing career, obviously making much less than before. She also adopted a son, Mason. (I think it’s interesting to note that Payton is an Indian woman, Gustavo was Mexican, and Charlotte is a mix of the two. And Mason is a green eyed, pale skinned, blonde.) Charlotte and Payton love Mason.
Payton know feeling like she her life a bit more under control is now trying to enter the dating world again, but doesn’t want to remarry like Gustavo. (And just be partnered up like Shakira and Pique) On the latest, she slept with her neighbor after he made a bunch of noise and she complained, but it was just sex, no relationship. She doesn’t even really like him. I forgot to mention she got a bunch of new tattoos.
But right now she’s focusing on her new career, her two kids, and finding them (and her) a new daddy.

2020.04.23 21:19 prossnip42 Women slut-shame too, sometimes overwhelmingly so

I hate this notion that a lot of people seem to have that only men tend to slut-shame women for being promiscuous or for having multiple partners. Of course, some men slut-shame women but a lot of women do it as well. In fact, i think women slut-shame overwhelmingly more than men do. Now stop me if you've heard this scenario or a variation of it ladies and gentlemen:
Girl 1: " Did you see (popular girl) the other day?"
Girl 2: "The bitch with the short skirt?
Girl 1: "Yes"
Girl 2: "Yeah, what a slut. I bet she slept with all the boys in her classroom"
I saw and heard catty shit like this all the time towards the "popular girl" in high school or college. And not just that. That happens in the entertainment industry as well. There were so many women calling Shakira and Jennifer Lopez whores online after their performance at the Super bowl. And if you're not into the genre you wouldn't know this but anybody here who's into Kpop will understand what I'm talking about next: A male idol takes their shirt off and grinds on stage like an Amsterdam stripper - perfectly fine. A female idol bends over suggestively or smirks at the camera - Whore! Harlot! Slut!

2020.04.03 18:25 CheeseAndTacos12 Truth or Dare 2 people

2 person truth or dare for close friends
RULES
• begin the game with both players taking a shot
• If you don’t want to do a dare, you must take 1 shot
• each player is allowed 1 reverse dare, where you can make the other person do your dare
• only do the dares because all the truths will be part of one of the dares
• a challenge dare means the other person involved in a dare might be the one punished or embarrassed, tough squash, it’s not reversible
• the youngest person does odds, oldest person does evens
DARES
  1. Remove the socks of the other person in the room with your mouth.
  2. Begin filling up a shot glass to the brim with spit for a future dare. Sucking on a popsicle or candy will help generate spit. (Not reversible)
  3. Challenge dare: whoever finishes their current drink first, wins. Go! The loser must do anything for the winner for the next 5 minutes
  4. Let the other person dress you like you’re going for a run on a hot summer day. Wear the outfit for the rest of the game
  5. For the rest of the game, anytime the other person has to fart, they will dutch oven you with their butt on your nose for 3 minutes. Anytime they have to burp, they will burp directly on your nose and you must breath in at the same time
  6. Challenge dare: choose a buzzfeed trivia game to play on separate devices. The winner puts their bare feet on the losers face for 5 minutes.
  7. The other person will sit on your lap while you read them a children’s book
  8. Suck on the other persons thumb for a minute
  9. Have the other person chew up a whole banana. You must eat the chewed up food and leave each bite in your mouth for about 10 seconds. They can either mamma bird the food to you or spit it into a bowl. Get as much spit out as possible with each bite to make it more gross
  10. You and the other player will both take a shot.
  11. Go put on the tightest/skimpiest skirt you can find and then dance to shakira with the other person for a minute. You must wear it the rest of the game
  12. Kiss the other persons cheeks, nose, and forehead for 5 seconds each. Or just kiss them on the lips once for 5 seconds
  13. Challenge dare: play stare with the other person. Do that before reading the rest. The winner will sit all the way back on the losers lap until you both finish answering all of the truth questions. Loser will answer the odd questions, winner will answer the even questions.
  14. Give the other person a neck massage for 5 minutes
  15. Put lotion on the other persons entire legs
  16. Challenge dare: The other person will choose a racing video game to play against each other. The winner will play the game again but will sit on the losers lap for the longest race possible.
  17. Close your eyes until you take a shot. The other person in the room will pour a shot and grab the shot glass full of spit. They will place the two shot glasses in front of you and cover them with their hands. Open your eyes and grab one of them and take it. If it’s the spit shot you must swish it in your mouth for 3 minutes before swallowing
  18. The other person will spit directly into your mouth with as much spit as they can. (Don’t worry, you can get revenge soon)
  19. Give the other person a full back massage for 10 minutes with oil and everything
  20. Challenge dare: type in “really hard riddle” on google. If neither of you can solve it in less than 2 minutes, you have to intimately slow dance, with your torsos touching, to “I will always love you” by Whitney Houston
  21. Suck on the other person’s toes for 2 minutes
  22. Stare deep into the other persons’ eyes with your foreheads and noses touching for 1 minute.
  23. Challenge dare. Do a thumb war with the other person. Do that before reading the rest. The loser will be punished by the winner. Winner will spit in the losers mouth as often as possible for the duration of an episode of something on Netflix. Suck on a popsicle or candy to produce more spit! When their mouth fills up, spit on their face/eyes for a couple minutes, then swallow and repeat.
  24. Don’t read this out loud or let the other person read it. Try to seduce the other person for 2 minutes. If they put their hands on your hips without you asking them to, it worked and they must do anything for you that you want
TRUTHS
  1. What would you do if you were the opposite sex for a month?
  2. What are your top 3 turn ons?
  3. What’s the cheapest you would charge the other person to have sex with you?
  4. What is your strongest fetish?
  5. Where is the strangest place you’ve peed?
  6. Excluding a dream, have you ever had a sexual thought about the other person?
  7. Who of your family or in-laws would you marry?
  8. Would you rather give or receive a lap dance to the opposite sex?
  9. What is the number one thing you want to do in bed with your partner?
  10. What is #1 on your sexual bucket list right now?
  11. Who is the most inappropriate person you’ve had a sexual fantasy about?
  12. Have you ever had an arousing dream about the other person?
  13. What is your favorite part of foreplay?
  14. Would you rather be a dominatrix or be a sub to the dominatrix?
  15. What age was your first orgasm?
  16. Would you ever make out with the same sex?
  17. Have you ever had a sexual dream? Who was it about?
  18. What’s one role play you’d want to act out?
  19. What is the weirdest thing that turns you on?
  20. What is the kinkiest thing you’ve ever done?
  21. What is the most childish thing you still do?
  22. If you were to have a threesome with people you know personally, who would the other 2 people be? (Your partner can’t be one)
  23. Have you ever farted during sex?
  24. On a scale of 1-10, how attractive is the other person?
  25. What is something your partner wants to do in bed that you do not?

2019.07.19 04:43 dinamikasoe How Can You Help Revolutionize Model of Business Education?

This is an educational post so people may decide if they want to revolutionize the model of Business Education or not?
The post is detailed so only serious-minded may read it.
DINAMIKA School of Entrepreneurs is a Non-Profit social enterprise, Offers FREE Classes, no one is selling anything here.
After understanding our mission, if you would like to help us and want to know how? there are a few goals/requests made at the bottom of this post.
If you can’t help us then please help this message reach people who may.
Stage one QUEST
About 17 years ago I set a quest for my life to answer one big question "Why Over 90% of Businesses Fail?" it’s a global problem billions of dollars are lost every year in the US alone, not just that business failures have horrible effects on people and societies. For instance, family ties break, people go homeless, friends become enemies, bankruptcies are filed, countless become jobless, many get chronic health and psychological problems, many get under huge debts, some even become corrupt, attempt to kill or even suicide, etc. Most people think it is meant to be this way but is it? Can I dedicate my life to discover a better and true solution to this problem which could at least take this higher percentage of failure down?. This journey had led me to read many books, researches, meet great entrepreneurs, rich families, teachers and educators to learn their secrets but nothing unusually amazing happened until I discovered my Fail-Proof Formula which is a new approach of teaching business through practical methodology and it has evolved over the years and today I call The DINAMIKA Class. I knew there were so many people, organizations, institutions, teachers, coaches, mentors, gurus, authors, programs, workshops, boot camps, exercises, internships, seminars, webinars, podcasts, offline and online courses, etc. were already trying to solve this problem. That was the time I use to educate myself by reading books, taking courses or meeting someone and learn some key points and say to myself and others maybe this is the solution. But then I started to see some common threads in all the solutions out there which are to let us inform or educate entrepreneurs, business students, and people who want to do business a little bit more through some missing information, case studies, secrets, predefined indoor and outdoor exercises and further information, theories, information, theories so forth and so on. Somehow I was never satisfied because the results were the same.
Stage two Discovery
Keeping on my mind, you can't solve a problem with the same level of thinking that created it. I had to stand apart and see the problem from a different out of the box perspective, which is why I believe I found a different, better and sustainable solution. Data and numbers helped me a lot, I found 70% of business graduates never give themselves permission to go out and do business, they felt they really do not know anything about real business and if they want to they will have to reeducate themselves all over again in the real world, in short, they could not relate what they learned with real world. On the other hand, I found, 98% of Doctors, Accountants, Lawyers, and Pilots, etc. succeed in their careers. Wait a minute what's going on here 90% failure and 98% success, are you kidding me? I wanted to know what’s the difference of these model of education to know the truth beneath and I found pretty mindboggling facts.
  1. Medical students in different institutions in the world would learn everything about, disease and medicine through theories, books, case studies, dummies, predefined exercises, etc. but after all that, they all actually have to go to a Real Hospital Emergency Ward where their Practical Education starts, where they will have to meet the high standards for years before they even think about getting a degree and if their hands shake or they cannot see the blood, etc. their seniors then either extend their practical education time period or would suggest them, it is not the right profession for them. I further explored and probed why it is designed this way? and some medical colleges require up to six years of real hospital practical education before their student can graduate. I was told because its a matter of human life we cannot take the risk of just giving theoretical education to our students, the world will cry NO to doctors who have studied everything about medicine but have never touched a pulse of a real human. It is not the name of the medical college or how great equipment they have for their students but the longer, better, practical education and training system they have, gives the world great doctors.
  2. Students of Accounts are not different either, you see they learn everything about debts, credit, assets, and liabilities through theories, books, case studies, dummies, predefined exercises, etc. but then they have to apply different accountancy real-world firms where they have to balance real financial sheets and meet the high standards, practicing accounts morning, afternoon, evening, night and overnight shifts for years before they think about becoming Chartered Accountants. When I explored and probed I was told most accounts fail during the first two years of this practical education and not after and the reason they are given this tough practical education because they cannot make mistakes if they would, the whole financial system that holds governments, economies, system of taxation, financial institutions, etc. will collapse the world will cry NO to accountant who has not practiced accounts for years before starting a career. Once again the institutions that have, longer, the better and practical education system aligned for their students produce great accountants.
  3. Model of Law education is of two types one where students learn everything through theories, books, case studies, dummies, predefined exercises, etc. and after that, they are on their own. But in other institutions, students actually have to go to real courtrooms, sit with real lawyers, judges, juries, criminals, do their research, study, assist, present their ideas, convince juries, give solutions so that they can be accepted in real successful law firms where they have to practice law right from the elementary level for years before they become attorney. Obviously where students get more practical education are the schools which give society great lawyers. I am told by senior law educators many students change their career right after going to the real courtroom for a few times because they couldn't take the pressure, couldn't think straight, couldn't say or speak the right thing on the right time for the right person, their one mistake can send an innocent to jail or set free a criminal, therefore there is NO place for wishy-washy lawyers in this profession.
  4. Student Pilots study through books, lecture, case studies, predefined exercises, etc. only two to four hours a week rest of the 12 to 14 hours they have to be on a Real Airplane flying in real air with an instructor different times of the day and during different weather conditions. Those who fail they fail during their practical education and never get their license. Flying thrills, but it's not a joke, you have to have strong nerves, sharp developed reflexes, you cannot lose focus, you cannot forget anything in the cockpit. Its a matter of your own life and its a matter of lives depending on you, therefore, there is NO none practical institution for pilots, in fact, the longer, better practical education on different airplanes the more poise and controlled pilots are produced.
My conclusion was pretty clear the more practical profession the more emphasis is on practical education in other 98% success models of education. I mean you can’t teach a child how to ride a bicycle through a book or a video game, can you? Its a practical thing, you have to teach the necessities through books and instructions, then put some protections on your child, help him get on the bicycle, attach the supporting wheels, show him the breaks, the ring, and how to paddle and then just push him, that's it after a few trial and errors he doesn't need the supporting wheels and then he learns to ride it like a pro even on one wheel, right?
I had a big question in front of me which I also like to ask you, what part of Business is not Practical? and Where do Business and Entrepreneur students go to get their Hard Practical Education? I am sure many of you have got that right, Nowhere!
This is not a microscopic discovery, its the core root problem with the model of our business education. Regardless of which institute you go and graduate this tough real-world Practical Education is entirely and completely missing. Most business institutions only have the same old books upon books, theories, lectures, never-ending case studies over case studies, in the end, final presentation and you get the degree. Others would then further teach you through successful entrepreneurs, many lectures and stories of real giants shared by themselves. After that, some give classroom training, indoor business, and corporate predefined situations, predefined exercises, and scenarios to solve, even some cards and table money gimmicks games are taught. After that Think like a child come up with your ideas, let your mind expand, find a new solution to a problem, make any old service better, answer a question or come up with a product idea that can make someone's life better. After that, a panel of seniors would judge your presentations, check your market research and if your idea has a demand then you get a round of applauding if not then go make it better and you will graduate. Some institutions now have their panel of Shark Tank where students present their ideas and some get cash prizes and even investments.

Why the world does not cry NO! to a business student who has learned everything about business through books and theories but have never learned how business is started and ran successfully and learned to earn money from scratch? Loss of $Billions takes the entire economy down is it not that big? Most people believe the number one reason entrepreneurs do not succeed is lack of funds. Is it true though? we see in the past 20 years many many websites and services have started to help idea holders get fully funded through the crowed, has it changed the reality? over 90% of the online fully funded to at times 200% to 500% extra funded business also fail. Many business analyst and gurus and even investors say 9 out of every 10 startups have to fail therefore investing is a picky and risky business. I say off course if we will never make business education better this myth will not be debunked. Because the truth is Business and Money making are a set of skills everyone can learn them through Practical and get better at them through Practice like every other profession. If we go back and read the life of Warren Buffet or Bill Gates or Steve Jobs or Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg etc. they all learned how businesses succeed in their early life through real-world practical skills.
Stage three Unique Research and Study
After I discovered the root cause of this problem I so badly wanted to do something about it and share it with the world but I didn't know-how. What happened next genuinely stunned my mind I was presented with an opportunity (I call it “The Gift of my Life”) to teach business and entrepreneurship at the most renowned university in Ecuador www.uees.edu.ec. Now I had no formal teaching experience. I said aaaaaahyes and requested the director to allow me to sit with other professors and learn and even interview students. I inwardly knew I am given a chance to do research and study on real students through trial and errors, create and originate a new way through which the missing practical education can be taught effectively to business students. I spent a couple of weeks with professors, library, probing students and get my thoughts and courses together. I went back and gave my proposal to the director that I would like to take the challenge of teaching provided that they will give me a free hand to teach. He asked what I meant by a free hand, I responded that I will divide my courses into two parts, part one theory and all and part two practical and students have to pass both to pass the course. He loved the idea and my teaching career begun on September 6, 2006. Just like a nutritionist I made notes upon notes and say hmm this is my clinic I’ll apply one after everything from the real world and see what truly works and what does not. The very first day I explained to students my courses will be a composite of theory and a practical and I could see right there everyone wanted to know what's the practical part? And I would respond the real-world education, they couldn’t wait and kept asking when the practical part will start?. Then one day on the chapter of a Hoax Marketing, some students wanted to know what’s the practical application of a Hoax. That’s it, I said this is going to be your practical education for this course. Your goal is to give yourself a NAME as a whole student body, then create a hoax about it and market it within the university to a level that everyone starts to gossip about it. While you experience the application and then analyze how effective were the results. Start brainstorming your ideas now! they came up with many names the superheroes, ET generation, Spartans were their most famous but they were not agreeing on one at all, one girl from the backseat said DINAMIKA (Dee Naa Me Ka) and yes we are DINAMIKA I heard a roar, I said is it the Spanish of Dynamic? Yes! Altogether and so it was. They then created a hoax through, signs, gossip, online ads, chat room, etc. DINAMIKA is a Shakira concert to be announced on such day such time. Others hoaxed it’s the name of a new sports complex which was under construction etc. Within a few days everyone was gossiping about DINAMIKA and on the due date and time when everyone wanted to know what is it, students put DINAMIKA T-shirts on and surprised everyone they were DINAMIKA. Believe me or not it became so famous that for another 6 years, I was known as the DINAMIKA professor, my classes were known as the DINAMIKA classes and my students were known as the DINAMIKA students, many DINAMIKA activities started in university after that and to date, they have there a DINAMIKA student club.
Now, this platform does not allow me to go into the detail of every practical after that, but in different courses, I had DINAMIKA smoke free day, smile effect, flowers sharing, coffee alternative day, minute message, the big thing, fragrance day, 4 minutes exercise, etc. All real-world goals learned and achieved in real-world, measured by real-world success or failure. I was not just on a mission to give them the missing practical education but also to know THE WHY behind every failure and success.
I would then set a goal for individuals who had the same kind of life routine and learn through observation and probing why some failed and some succeeded, what were the common excuses and what can I do better next time so most of them succeed.
I would set goals for pairs and do the same for them.
I would set goals for a small group of students and do the same analysis.
I would also set one goal for a whole class and then do everything I can to increase the probability of their success.
I would also divide the entire class in a hierarchy with different designation and job responsibilities given to different most suitable students, to analyze do the corporate hierarchy get things done faster?
I would also just give a project to students and let them decide on their own who could be the leader and where each student felt fit and then observe which model is better. Corporate hierarchy or project management.
I found many mind-blowing and eyeopening facts and I did this over and over again for a little over a year. I also learned things about myself like from the day one teaching experience made some profound changes inside me. I would off and on found myself as some call the zone, where I am reading, researching and exploring and have forgotten everything that I have not eaten anything and the day has ended long ago and if I am not going home, I’ll have to stay in the library till next morning. when I am taking a class or giving lectures students interaction became the most important to me. My self-awareness became more alert, I am controlling my language and the words I use to say and even judging my actions and character all the time. I found my true voice in teaching and just never wanted anything to change.
I used to sit in the library and go over all the practical projects I gave my students and try to make it a step by step foolproof system which should work almost like a science for the next students that will help them learn some real-world business skills better than the previous. Can they make money through practical education?, I heard this voice inside me over and over again. Suddenly I knew I had to give my students financial goals otherwise DINAMIKA Class is not a complete system. But I am not authorized, what would happen? maybe they won't allow me, what if someone complains about it, what if I get fired but I had to listen to my inspiration and in the next course with a shaky voice I set a goal for students to earn $500 within two weeks from scratch and it should all be profit. Guess what? Yes, they achieved it and they achieved it before time and went further and earned over $1440, selling homemade chocolates and sandwiches. The next class goal was $1000 and then $2000 and then $5000 and then $10,000. Money money money ..... money! I heard this song whispered inside my head every time students achieved their goal.
Then a random student would meet me in a library or a cafeteria and ask, you are the DINAMIKA Professor right? That's right! Even though my major is psychology but I want to take a course with you because I can take it as a minor, you are most welcome. I had students who took a course with me and then changed their major to entrepreneurship or business. Some told me this was the only course they will remember their entire life, some started their business at the age of 19 and some groups started new services and online businesses. There was a cult-like student body who wanted to get the next challenge and learn through trial and error. Some professors wanted to sit with me and ask me how can they also make their classes more interactive and add some practicality to their courses.
On the other hand, some students who were not meant to study business were time to time complaining about me, who this professor is, why he is not normal like other professors, give us the assignments, we do it and present and then he marks us that's it, why practical is mandatory in his classes? Some professors were also threatened by DINAMIKA, they thought I was making students hate them and poisoning their mind that their way of teaching is outdated. Some high echelons of university started probing me. Why am I not following the standardization? And by the way where this DINAMIKA way of teaching came from, who am I following? It is not the model of McGraw-Hill, is it? Are you trying to take over the university? I would humbly respond to them, my classes have the highest attendance, great interaction, no one sleeps, students learn through involvement, trail, error and practical, they are becoming entrepreneurs through practical education, is it not what we want? They would say yes yes we love that.
But then they started putting conditions like no more money involvement, no more DINAMIKA Projects within the university premises, etc. Which was better because now students had to do business, sell and earn money on the streets. The projects became more bold, bigger and more DINAMIKA. Little practical education projects became a complete FoolProof system through which anyone can learn, develop and improve their business and money-making skills The DINAMIKA word went out, newspaper and magazines wrote, tv interviewed me about DINAMIKA Classes and other universities also invited me to give lectures even in Peru and Colombia. But I also knew the tense bubble was about to explode any moment and it did and they didn’t give me any courses at the beginning of the year 2014. I went back to the university and gave them all the great reasons they loved but somehow they didn't want to hear anything about practical education anymore, they didn't fire me but I was fired.
That night while counting my blessings of DINAMIKA, I looked up and made a commitment to myself, my hand turned into a fist and I said, the heartfelt service that I gave to my students in a small classroom of a small university in a small country, I will find a way to take it to all over the world.

Stage Four DINAMIKA School of Entrepreneurs. Non-Profit. Offers FREE Classes
Mid-2015 I came to New York and applied every university I could and shared my DINAMIKA research, findings and teaching experience, only a couple replied, that because I am not Ph.D. there is no chance for me. My second choice was to start my own institution and I didn't know much people but I started reaching out whoever I could. Soon some (who I do not want to take their names) liked my work but they wanted to get all the equity as if I was building another app. Working with students and serving them all towards the achievement of one financial goal is probably one of the hardest jobs to do, plus I am always looking for partners who understand what is DINAMIKA Class and where it can go. Long story short, the business education is probably one of the most expensive fields in the USA and If I started charging for my revolutionary practical education then what's the difference am I going to make? gradually I was drawn and have recently started a non-profit institution. DINAMIKA School of Entrepreneurs, offers FREE courses. A class of 50 to 100 Students all together have to achieve one Financial Goal from scratch within 100 days following 9 FoolProof DINAMIKA steps. You become a certified DINAMIKA entrepreneur only when you achieve your goal or you can take the FREE course again. Real business skills are learned and developed in real-world not in a classroom, not through case studies and not through online courses. I have been reached out by many students and graduates even from Oxford university that how much they need to take this course.

2019.07.01 23:43 OregonIT My Food Review of Black Wolf Supper Club

As the sushi island suggestion went over well thought I'd give my thoughts on other restaurants sorta hidden away or not talked about much.
So a reality in Eugene, when Papa Soul Food shutdown the chicken in the city is in a desperate situation.
When it comes to fried chicken you have to travel to Bellhop in Corvallis who brine the chicken to get something good.
My only other suggestion for those who didn't want to travel was Royal India for the tandoori chicken which I think is the best in town but doesn't fit that urge you want with fried chicken (don't get me started about Winner Winner, they are afraid of something called seasoning.)
So on to Black Wolf, it is hidden between a Vegan Restaurant and Electric Oregon Station.
Going in the restaurant is oozing with atmosphere and attitude to the point that it just felt not Eugene and awesome for it. Had Shakira, Snoop Dog, County Music, and some random banjo thing play during my time eating. Adored it, was a bit caught off guard as I did bring my kid along and the music word choice wasn't something I'd let him listen on 😆 as they were not radio edits but so be it.
The food is very Cajun mixed with some other influences that I could not identify as where it was from, so to the food.
I ordered a Gin Rickey, bar tender was generous on the liquor.
Ordered the Gumbo, was not what I expected for a Gumbo but the chicken, sausage, and mix was awesome.
Kid ordered crab beignets and he learned that beignets taste like bread not crab mostly.
His fault not the food items.
Partner ordered the Buck Buck Fried Chicken here is the main dish ...
Great Chicken, but that sauce they put on it... And something to reflect on for my Gumbo dish. This place makes a great for Eugene but just above average is elsewhere fried chicken.
The sauces they put on the chicken steals the enjoyment from the fried chicken. They need to trust in the chicken and not smother it in stuff that won't let you enjoy it.
So final say? Great Chicken, order the Buck Buck dish but strongly insist sauces to the side and not on it. The sauce is hit or miss and can steal your enjoyment of a damn fine bird.
Review: Go try it, Eugene has nothing else like what they are serving in the city. If you think black pepper is spicy probably not the restaurant for you.

2019.04.28 04:54 d8uv Ultimate Song Tournament 1992-2007, or why “Under the Bridge” is the best song of the 90s and 00s.

I was curious as to what the best song of the 90s and 00s would be. To figure this out, I created a massive 256-song tournament, and ran through it with my partner antarris

Our Filled Bracket

http://www.d8uv.org/misc/song-tournament-1992-2007-filled-out.png

What the hell is that thing up there

For each year in our tournament, I took the top 16 songs from Billboard’s Year-End Hot 100 chart (which measures a song’s overall popularity over the course of the year), and seeded them appropriately (so that the more popular songs have a slight advantage). Then, I took the output of the 16 years, and ran a tournament to find the best song of the 90s, the best song of the 00s, then pitted those two winners in the grand final.
Note: In the filled-out bracket, we were mostly in agreement. When we absolutely couldn’t agree, we had to split. Splits are denoted by slashes; the song on top is d8uv’s choice, and the song on bottom is antarris’s choice.

Notes from the tournament

1992—Winner: “Under The Bridge”

d8uv: Note: “Smells Like Teen Spirit”–you know, the song that changed the entire rock genre—only got up to 32. And yet, “Just Another Day”, a song that you have never heard of, was the 10th most popular song. What the hell was wrong with the people of 1992? antarris: Not everyone was an angsty white suburban teenager, you know.

1993—Winner: “Nuthin’ But A ‘G’ Thang”

antarris: I don’t even know who like a third of these people even are. “I Will Always Love You” nearly won my bracket.

1994—Winner: d8uv: “Whatta Man”, antarris: “Don’t Turn Around”

antarris: The Sign was the first album I ever owned. I sang “Don’t Turn Around” in the shower through my mid-twenties. Sorry-not-sorry. d8uv: This was the year of Ace of Base, and as much as I love my trashy eurodance, the sound hasn’t aged particularly well. antarris: I live for my trashy eurodance. Fight me.

1995—Winner: d8uv: “Waterfalls”, antarris: “Gangsta’s Paradise”

antarris: “Waterfalls” is just a touch behind for me, probably because my little sister played it incessantly. She was seven. d8uv: Antarris called “Gangsta’s Paradise” out as “the only rap song every white person knows”. This was meant as a compliment, but I know better.

1996—Winner: d8uv: “Tha Crossroads”, antarris: “C’mon N’ Ride It (The Train)”

d8uv: When pressed for comment, all antarris said was “... it’s a choo-choo train.” antarris: Pure fucking lyrical genius. “Tha Crossroads” is my second favorite, though. d8uv: Still, I found myself honestly surprised at how much I liked “Tha Crossroads”.

1997—Winner: “Wannabe”

d8uv: This—like 1994—was a surprisingly weak year. Every matchup other than the final was super easy, and even the final wasn’t that hard. antarris: “Semi-Charmed Life” was #17. It would have won my bracket. I probably should’ve bought it instead of recording the video off MTV.

1998—Winner: “How’s It Going To Be”

antarris: This year was also surprisingly weak. Lots of “this is my third favorite song from this artist.” d8uv: Elton John cheated with a mediocre song that made into two years of this tournament.

1999—Winner: “Livin’ la Vida Loca”

d8uv: This had the hardest matchup in the entire tournament. The seeding was unkind, and forced two songs that would have won the year if they didn’t have to clash. “No Scrubs” vs. “Livin’ la Vida Loca”. But, in the end, Ricky Martin just barely beat TLC. I’m still not sure if this was the right choice. antarris: If “No Scrubs” had won, it would have made it just as far as “Livin’ La Vida Loca” did. It’s that good. My mom thinks we made the wrong choice, though.

2000—Winner: “Smooth”

antarris: I honestly thought d8uv would fight me on this one. I remembered him saying he absolutely hated “Smooth”. d8uv: My dad only listens to Classic Rock. So, when Santana came out with new music, of course he had to Limewire it, and he loved those singles. I heard “Smooth” so many times my teeth fell right out of my head. Turns out, it’s actually a great song. Who knew?

2001—Winner: “Fallin’”

antarris: A garbage-ass year. I’m pretty sure I rounded third base listening to that Staind song, though. d8uv: I thought Dido would win, since I love that song and still play it. antarris: I think you mean “Stan”.

2002—Winner: “In The End”

d8uv: Hybrid Theory is the rare album that became better over time. antarris: Seriously. I hated this in 2002. Love it now.

2003—Winner: “Crazy in Love”

antarris: I had somehow never even heard “Crazy in Love” before. Wow. d8uv: This did not win because it was novel. Lord knows, these pop charts are filled with random songs that we’ve forgotten. Almost every single one was forgotten for a reason. antarris: To be fair, I think 2001 made me give up on pop music for like a decade.

2004—Winner: “Hey Ya!”

d8uv: Outkast was as popular as they deserve, for once. antarris: I was promised Enya. I got baby Adam Levine instead. What the actual fuck.

2005—Winner: “Gold Digger”

antarris: That’s not even the best song named “Shake It Off.” d8uv: Kanye can be very VERY good when he tries.

2006—Winner: “Crazy”

antarris: “Crazy” vs. “Ridin’” was hard for me. I’m still not sure if I made the right call. d8uv: Are you sure you weren’t thinking of the Weird Al version? antarris: Yes. Fuck off.

2007—Winner: “Umbrella”

d8uv: Here it is, the weakest year of the tournament. There’s like one, maybe two good songs in this list.

90s Grand Tournament—Winner: “Under The Bridge”

d8uv: This was harder than the individual years, because we love every single one of these songs. “Under The Bridge” vs. “Nuthin’ but A ‘G’ Thang” was particularly brutal for me. antarris: We started listening to high-quality versions of the songs here instead of just streaming YouTube. Coolio going over Ace of Base in my bracket surprised me.

00s Grand Tournament—Winner: “In The End”

antarris: “Umbrella” over “Crazy” and “Gold Digger”? Really? It’s like I don’t even know you! d8uv: Should I pack up and leave? Maybe head to the train station? antarris: I picked the song about choo-choo tr--oh, I see what you did there. Not cool. d8uv: This song was always great, it just took a few years for people to forget the stank of nu-metal.

The Grand Final—Winner: “Under The Bridge”

d8uv: They tried so hard, and got so far. But, in the end, it didn’t even matter. antarris: Afterwards, I looked up some of the history on “Under the Bridge”, and this makes sense. A funk-rock band wrote a song based on a poem and had it produced by Rick Rubin. It’s like catnip to both of us for completely different reasons. d8uv: The thing that clinched it for me was the realization that this song builds so beautifully. It’s dynamic in a way most pop songs are, but maintains being interesting even during the subdued opening. antarris: Yeah, I used an orgasm metaphor when I advocated for it. d8uv: Most of the songs on this list were pop songs that became art. This song felt like art that became a pop song. That’s pretentious to say, so just remember—I almost went with “Umbrella”.

Caveats

I chose these years because I needed to cut 4 years to get 20 years down to 16. Because of this, I excluded the two lowest-revenue (according to the RIAA, adj. for inflation) years from the 90s (1990 and 1991), and the two lowest-revenue years for the 00s (2008 and 2009). It might have been better to include them, but I didn’t want to.
Because the Billboard year ends in November, if a song is released during the winter, it’s likely that it won’t show up as a smash hit for one year; instead, it will show up as a mediocre hit across two years. Some songs can pull off charting highly in consecutive years, but that’s really rare.
It’s important to remember the wise words of Binary Star: Everything that glitters ain’t gold, and every gold record don’t glitter—that’s for damn sure. The Hot 100 measures popularity, not cultural relevance or quality. A lot of very good, very important songs didn’t make the cut for this tournament, while a lot of long-forgotten dross did. Ultimately, I’m fine with this. Most of the fun of filling out the bracket was running into songs I don’t remember and going “What the fuck are YOU, song?”
For singles with an A-side and a B-Side (ex: “Follow You Down / Til I Hear It from You - Gin Blossoms”) I chose the first song. This is a little arbitrary, but a line has to be drawn somewhere.
Some additional caveats (because antarris is an academic pedant): this obviously has too small and homogenous a viewing audience to be objective truth. While both of us have pretty broad taste in music, there are some genres—mainstream country and slow R&B in particular—that neither of us is super into. This probably skews our results significantly, especially in the 90s bracket.
Also, a better way to determine our sample of songs would be to take a page from Good Mythical Morning’s cereal tournament and set up a poll for each year. However, getting a survey sample that’s representative of the population at large would be extremely challenging with an internet poll and, let’s face it, we’re not getting grant money for this shit.

If you disagree, you should fill out your own bracket:

MADRID (Reuters) – Colombian singer Shakira has been called to appear in a Spanish court on June 12 to face accusations of failing to pay 14.5 million euros ($16.5 million) in tax, the court in the Catalonia region said on Tuesday.
A court statement dated Jan. 22 summoning her was published on Tuesday.
Prosecutors filed charges in December claiming Shakira had failed to pay tax on income earned between 2012 and 2014, during which time they say she lived in the region.
Shakira’s representatives said in a statement after the accusation was filed that the singer did not live in Spain until 2015 and had met all of her tax obligations.
The singer of “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Clandestino” regularly attends football matches of her partner, Gerard Pique, who plays for Barcelona. Pique and Shakira, a couple since the start of the decade, have two children.
Spanish authorities have pursued other major celebrities over tax.
Pique’s Argentinian Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi was found guilty, along with his father, of a 4.1 million euro tax fraud in 2016 and was fined 250,000 euros as well as paying back the missing tax plus interest.
On Jan. 22, Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo, who left Real Madrid for Juventus this year, was fined a total of almost 19 million euros for tax fraud.
